This post is very personal and close to my heart because podcasts have allowed me to discover and explore ideas and topics I would have never been exposed to without them. This in my personal podcast list that I listen to everyday and are, in my opinion, the top podcasts you NEED to be listening.
I’m shocked at how little people know about podcasts. Most people I talk to have never even heard of the term “podcast” and the people who have have only glanced at the idea of listening to them. What people have yet to realize is that podcasts are an incredible FREE resource for learning that NOBODY IS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF. It boggles my mind. Podcasts have been the single greatest tool I’ve ever experienced for personal growth, education, entertainment, and discovering new interests. They have the ability to turn your banal, uneventful days into an amazing opportunity to learn new ideas and subjects that you are interested in.
Imagine if you were able to learn three or more new, interesting things or were exposed to three or more new ways of thinking almost every single day for an entire year? How many new ideas would that lead to? How much more of an interesting person would you become? How much more would you understand about the world around you? For me, getting involved in the podcast world has been a life changing and massively eye opening experience that I am incredibly grateful for everyday.
But enough about my love affair with podcasts. Over the years I have listened to many podcast but these are the ones that have either stood the test of time and are consistently good, episode after episode, or I’ve just discovered and see huge potential in.
The Joe Rogan Experience was the very first podcast I ever listened to and I found it completely by accident. I remember many years ago one of my friends talking about a hilarious story he had read online about how the host of Fear Factor ate a marijuana lollipop on an airplane and got so high that he almost pissed himself. For some reason this story stuck in my head for years and when I got my very first laptop in 2008 at the age of 18 ( yes, my parents neglected to get a computer for my entire childhood, big deal.) I decided to try and find this Joe Rogan story but instead came across a video podcast. The first episode I listened to was #88 and I stayed up till 3 am listening to episode after episode because I was so fascinated. I’ve been hooked on podcasts ever since.
The reason the JRE is such a good podcast is because it has no form or structure. Its a completely free flowing, three hour long conversation about anything and everything. His guest range is so vast it would be impossible to even give you examples of all the types of people he has on his show.
This podcast is an amazing playground to discover topics you’re interested in and a lot that you didn’t think you would be interested in. From listening, I discovered I have a deep passion for health and nutrition, along with business, psychedelics, and many more. The point is that there is something for everyone on this show so it makes it a great place to start if you’re new to podcasts.
The Duncan Trussell Family Hour is the one podcast that I am the most excited to see when there is a new episode uploaded. Duncan is a comedian and a close friend to Joe Rogan which is how I found out about him. If you want to hear the most fascinating, next level stoner talk just listen to any podcast that has Joe Rogan and Duncan Trussell together. Your brain might melt out of your head.
Duncan Trussell’s’ podcast is only an hour long, but it’s an amazing hour. The podcast usually starts off with a very random rant that leaves me hysterically laughing. His fascination with psychology, eastern and western religion and mysticism, mixed with brutal honesty and dick jokes makes this podcast one of the most entertaining shows that I’ve ever found.
Duncan is so open and honest with his thoughts and feeling that it’s hard not to love him. From talking about his girlfriend dumping him, to discussing his recent testicular cancer diagnosis, nothing about his personal life is left off the table. He has had numerous episodes where he or a guest, who are 40+ year old men, have broken down and cried. He even went so far as having his mother, who was dying of cancer and has now unfortunately past away, come on and talk about how strange it was to be planning her own funeral. Truly amazing content and easily one of my favorite podcasts.
The Tim Ferriss Show is a podcast I’ve been waiting for for a long time. Reading Tim`s books which include The 4 Hour Work Week, The 4 Hour Body, and The 4 Hour Chef, have changed my life so I’m excited he finally put together a podcast.
His podcast is fairly recent but it’s already showing huge potential. His book fame gives him great guest reach such as Tony Robbins so im excited to see this podcast evolve as Tim finds his groove with this new project. Currently its more of an interview style podcast but the questions are good so I highly recommend giving it a listen.
Health and Relationship
John Kiefer is a difficult man to find due to his constant changing of website names. From Dangerously Hardcore to Athlete IO, he’s finally set up a new podcast and website under Body IO. John is the author of Carb Nite and Carb backloading, two amazing, incredibly unknown nutrition books that more people definitely need to be aware of.
Kiefer and his co host Dr. Rocky discuss and dissect popular nutrition and fitness research and really try their best to base all their opinions on the science and most recent research available. There is no bullshit on this show and they’re not afraid to admit if they don’t know something because a lot of what they talk about is under studied. They don’t pretend to know everything and they don’t regurgitate trending topics just to get more listeners, which with the current health guru mentality, is a breathe of fresh air. If there are holes in a hypotheses they will make sure to discuss it and not just assume that one piece of evidence is the truth. I truly believe these two are trying their best to put of the most factual information possible so if you’re looking for a honest and real health podcast, this is the one.
Amber Lyon has an amazing story about how she went from a hardcore news reporter for CNN, covering the most brutal news stories imaginable, to now, being a leading evangelist for the use of psychedelic drugs and plant medicines for improving peoples mental and physical health all stemming from a single ayahuasca trip that she took last year.
On this podcast you’ll hear the most fantastical stories from people completely healing their 20 year long battle with crippling PTSD with one, eight hour psychiatric lead MDMA trip, to people who were so lost and depressed they were on the verge of suicide, then going to the amazon to do ayahuasca, and coming back, completely healed of their past trauma.
This podcast breaks down all the misconception of “drugs” and explores the immense healing powers of psychedelics and plant medicines.
This podcast is something that every young man NEEDS to listen to and I can’t stress that enough. This podcast is a no bullshit approach that will teach you how to be a man and attract the types of relationship that you want, whether your goals are short, medium or long term relationships.
Think of this podcast as the “anti pick up artist” resource. Everything they discuss is based on evolutionary psychology and about how to become a better person, so you can attract better quality women. It is in no way about manipulating girls to sleep with you.
Pat Flynn is the best resource I’ve found for learning how to make money online, hands done. He’s got a very likable personality and really gives you actionable advice during every podcast. The strategies I’ve picked up from listening to his show have put me leaps and bounds ahead of where I thought I’d be today. If you’re a beginner in the online business world, with the help of Pat and his guests, you will get a step by step strategy for setting up, launching, and building a successful business online. It only took me three months to put together a blog and ebook after piecing the ideas together, just from his podcast.
These two truly have an amazing story. This podcast was the catalyst for me diving into blogging and online business. I first heard them tell their story on the Entrepreneur of Fire Podcast and when I watched their free 6 video ecourse on how to build and sell digital products, that was the moment my life changed and I realized what I wanted to do with my life.
Before they became online entrepreneurs, Shane was a teacher and high school football coach and Jocelyn was a kindergarten librarian. Neither of them had any online business experience. After they discovered Pat Flynn’s podcast they thought they would give it a try. I love their story for three reason. First, they started out with zero experience. Secondly, their online business are about very niche topics such as high school football playbooks, and kindergarten librarian lesson plays which proves you can start an online business about anything. Finally, after only three years, between their two websites, they’re generation six figures a month. There podcast teaches you exactly how to do the same and because they have very little computer savvy experience, everything they talk about is super simple, easy to understand and to put into action.
John Lee Dumas is an incredible person who I look up too. After constantly running out of business podcasts to listen to, John wished that there was a seven day a week business podcast that existed so that he could get a boost of inspiration every single day. So, being an entrepreneur he decided to make that podcast himself. Having ZERO podcast or audio experience, John set out to build a podcast. Nine months later he was up and running an almost three years later he now generated over $200,000 a month. This is the potential of online business and taking action.
John’s podcast is a seven day a week show where he interviews all type of entrepreneurs. John gives a unique interview style where he asks the same questions to every guest. The questions are incredibly well thought out and the answers they generate are golden. John is currently approaching 1000 podcasts so if you were to listen to the story of 1000 entrepreneurs, you’ll have a pretty detailed picture of what exactly it takes to be successful.
